Leaving Yellowstone

Wet roads from rain on & off

J spotted a Bald Eagle, when we stopped he went into this tree

Montana Roads

Big sky country

At times we went through hills

In Glacier National Park we passed tis river

Then we came to a great lake

At the end of the open road we went up a valley and followed the creek to a mountain lake

This was the brook as it left the upper lake
Lake in the mountains

Leaving the park we saw roadside bears!

Yellowstone National Park

We spent the day visiting geothermal features and looking for wild animals. Lots of bison and good luck with the geothermals as one knows where they will be.

Idaho Falls to Yellowstone Park

We got off INT 15 going east toward Jackson Hole WY

We then took Teton Pass over the mountains

There was fresh snow

There are very cool views from this pass
We then headed north through the Grand Teton National Park

I don't mind when parts of the car show, it makes it clear that these are the views you see from the road.
We had lunch on Jenny Lake
While driving to our hotel in Yellowstone we stopped at Yellowstone Canyon to see the falls.
It's quite a hike down the side of the canyon to get this view of the falls
That night we checked into the historic Old Faithful Inn, a 5 or 6 story long cabin with a full height lobby that pre dates Hyatt by more than 100 years.

MAY 2015: Vegas, Zion National Park, North

Thursday night we arrived in VEGAS.
We had a great room at the Flamingo with floor to ceiling flamingo pink drapes
The room had a great view
In the morning I went across the street and bought suntan lotion at Caesar's Palace
On our way to Zion National Park we checked out the earth work Double Negative
Getting there included over 20 miles of dirt roads, this was a better one.
Interstate 15 runs through the middle on Utah, we took it north, then side cut east to Zion.

It rained on and off Friday so the light was tricky

Las Vegas, NV, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon AZ, 280 Miles 2013

Leave Las Vegas, Stop off at Hoover Dam, arrive at the Grand Canyon.
After you get out of Las Vegas the roads to the Grand Canyon are not that interesting except for passing over Hoover Dam. We stopped once to take the tour of the dam. I would not do this again, they get your money, give you a hard hat, and then put you in a room to wait. To go into the dam you are put in an elevator and dropped down a long long ways, then you walk around in some wet tunnels, at one point you get to see the turbine room, the you wait again to get out. I liked the terrazzo floors, but you can see some of those in the towers on the dam without going for the tour. Parking and walking a bit of the dam is good fun.

There are some nice artistic touches at Hoover Dam, like these art deco angels.

Lots of power lines to take the electricity west.

Terrazzo floor based on Mimbres Pottery Indian design.

This storm cloud passed fast.

When you traveling from Kingman AZ to Williams on INT 40 you are also traveling the path of historic RT 66. If you get off the highway you will probably see references to this.
