Cortez, CO to Moab, UT, 170 Miles

Drive from Cortez, Co to Moab, UT
The roads from Cortez, CO to Moab, UT run through some spectacular country with more variety than you will see on the rest of this road trip. The south eastern corner of Colorado is full of beautiful mountains with rich green fir trees and silvery aspens. Most of this drive is on single lane roads, you should move along fine if not caught behind too many campers. 170 MI 3 Hours

Just before passing into Utah we encountered cows and cowboys! it was very intimate driving through them.

Entering the red rock world of Utah. I wonder what those guys in covered wagons thought when they saw this coming at them.

This blog is made up a photos from a multiple trips I have made to this area. Some are digital pictures, other have been scanned from my photo albums.

On our big trip west in 1996 we got into Denver in the evening, drove down to Colorado Springs 70 miles south to avoid morning traffic in the Denver area. We stayed at a very nice Hampton Inn on INT 25 in the morning we took the "high road" to Taos and then on to Sante Fe, New Mexico for a very nice night.
The first exit south of Raton, NM- RT 64 will get you started on that nice drive.
Colorado Spings to Taos 265 MI , Taos to Sante Fe 71 Miles.

The next day you can drive Sante Fe, NM to Cortez, CO 260 Miles and be on the loop

After your loop you can pick up INT 70 west just north of Moab, UT and cut back to Denver to drop the car and fly home. Moab, UT to Denver, CO 350 miles right through the Rocky Mountains.
