Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, 4 Corners, Corez, CO, 350 Miles

Leave Garnd Canyon, stop off at Monument Valley, arrive Cortez, CO
Some early walking along the rim can very very fun, after that we left the Grand Canyon via the east gate.
Early moring with the local wild life.

We stayed on the black top path that runs along near the edge of the canyon. This deer chose the nibble right on the path.

It was clear that these animals are very used to having people near by.

This large Elk chose a more secluded spot, I took this photo from a good distance.

After breakfast we packed up and headed out of the park, planning to leave by the east gate. The road along the south rim has many pull-offs with great views. This is a rare view from the rim on down to the river.

Look for signs for Mather Point, it is worth stopping there to catch the very special view.

The foreground here is in shadow from the ledge.
After leaving the park the area is still dramatic.

Sunset Creator is off in the distance.

Even at this distance the roadside is plants growing is ash black earth.

Monument Valley is a private park operated by the Navajo Indian Tribe. You pay a fee at the entry and then drive yourself around the park in a big loop. A four-wheel-drive vehicle with decent clearance is recommended. The line to get in can move slow as people try to use the national parks pass to get into this private land.

Typical roadway in the park.
More rocks.

Nice rock

Trucks and cars pulled to the side to catch a photo moment.

Ship Rock from the road, on the way to Four Corners.

This is the only spot in the United States were you can stand in four states at the same time. Know as Four Corners, a fun quick stop.

Cortez Colorado has a fun downtown with some nice pub type bars for a good beer and burger. The Holiday Inn had a nice indoor pool.
